This talk will showcase Wellcome Collection’s approach to exploring the opportunities for applying new and emerging ‘AI’ technologies to its diverse collection. This will explore the development of the new Wellcome Collection Knowledge Graph which creates new routes through the collection, the use of Vision Language Models for image discovery, and the rapid prototyping of different semantic search and chat interfaces for the Collection and its contents.

The speaker will also reflect on how Wellcome has built on its experience of applying cutting edge machine learning and data approaches over the past decade. The speaker will also touch on the approach to developing a transparent AI strategy and framework for engaging with new technologies, whilst respecting the ethical and environmental concerns that come with it.
