Remark! is a Deaf-led organisation based in London, one of the leading providers for BSL translation and training. They are dedicated to improving awareness and access for Deaf people in public spaces across London and the UK, including museums.
In this session, Robert Morgan, Head of Services at Remark! will explore common access barriers faced by Deaf people in museums and heritage sites. They will discuss how these challenges can be addressed by carefully designing inclusive exhibitions and events that better serve d/Deaf visitors.
Attendees will learn about the importance of Deaf Awareness training, which helps organisations understand how to support d/Deaf visitors and ensures staff are equipped to communicate effectively.
Robert will also highlight the benefits of offering BSL translation and tours in museums and heritage sites to ensure all visitors have the same customer journey and experience and having the same access to information. Additionally, we’ll look at how museums and public venues can integrate BSL into their customer service approach to ensure a positive experience for all visitors.
Participants will also be introduced to essential BSL vocabulary and phrases, helping them engage with visitors whose use BSL to communicate in more effective manner and respectful manner. The session will end with Q&A to address specific concerns or ideas from the audience.
