Speakers: Philippa Turner, Sector Development Manager, London and Business Archives, André Santos, Digitisation Production Manager, The National Archives

A wide range of organisations hold archives, including museums and heritage sites, but many archive collections remain inaccessible or underused. This talk will explore how The National Archives helps museums and heritage organisations to look after archive collections and make better use of them.

Philippa Turner from the Archive Sector Leadership team will summarise how The National Archives provides free guidance to heritage organisations of all sizes and will show the positive impact this support can have through real-life examples. Philippa will share links to our grant programmes, including those that help organisations scope and catalogue their archive collections, as well as other relevant resources that museum and heritage organisations can access from the team and online.

Alongside Philippa, André Santos from our Digitisation team will explain how digitising archival material can support an organisation’s work in many ways, from enabling broader access to the collections through to commercial benefits. André will highlight a range of case studies about how the team’s commercial services have helped organisations of any size to carry out successful digitisation projects.
