Speakers: Kath Cockshaw, Project Director and Aly Tipping, Programme Manager, The Thomas Wolsey 550 Project
The Thomas Wolsey 550 project launched in Ipswich in March 2023, to celebrate the anniversary of the birth of Cardinal Wolsey in his home town, and to capitalise strategically on this aspect of the town’s heritage for the first time. Prior to our successful application for a £250K NLHF grant, we needed to take an innovative approach to fundraising. Our key aim of increasing a sense of pride in the town ignited Ipswich’s business community to pull together and get Wolsey 550 off the ground.
Spearheaded by Ipswich Central, our founding phase was funded by the Business Improvement District (BID). Happily, the strategic nature of this place-making scheme attracted support from key organisations and businesses across the town from the get-go. Following deep consultation across Ipswich’s communities, when it came to planning our public engagement strategy and schools programme, our team has boldly gone where none have gone before… We look forward to telling you our project story and sharing the highlights with you.
