Speakers: Rosie Holmes, Assistant Learning Producer and Deborah Hogan, Learning Producer, Historic Royal Palaces

This presentation will focus on the Historic Royal Palaces Access Fund for Schools, a programme aimed at removing some of the financial and geographical barriers schools face when visiting our sites. Now entering its seventh year, it currently supports funded visits to Hampton Court Palace, Kensington Palace and The Tower of London for schools across the UK. This academic year we funded around 12,000 student visits and aim to increase this number for 24/25.  New to the scheme for 23/24 was the introduction of a travel subsidy scheme, providing financial support with transport costs. As a result, schools were able to visit from as far and wide as Wales, Cornwall, Scotland, and Newcastle. Here we will present a toolkit to assist other organisations planning similar funds including:

  • Information that funders or donors may require and administratively what should be considered;
  • How to market the programme and how to reach schools most in need;
  • How to update funders, providing up to date reach numbers and  impact data;
  • How to plan for the different stages of application, including calculating financial and staff time costs;
  • Evaluating the programme.
